Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica & National Shrine 3121 West Jackson Boulevard Chicago, IL 60612-2729 Telephone: 773-638-0159 E-Mail olsparish@ols-chicago.org October 1, 2007 Dear Friend of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica Parish, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows and the National Shrine of St. Peregrine, OSM, Thank you for reading this letter! My name is Fr. Christopher Krymski, OSM, current pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica Parish in Chicago, IL. Presently, our Basilica Parish is in serious financial need. We are projecting a larger budget deficit this year and one that will only continue to grow without your help! Yes, we need you on our team in this cause to save OLS. Our boiler system needs repair before wintertime. We need handicapped accessibility to our restrooms and Parish Hall where we feed our homeless guests with a hot Saturday morning breakfast. They come to Our Lady of Sorrows in wheel chairs, on crutches, and with canes to celebrate Sunday Mass and the St. Peregrine healing Mass and luncheon. Our Parish Mission statement calls us to be a Beacon of Light on the West Side of Chicago. We can remember the thousands of persons who were our “beacons of light” here in the 1930’s, ‘40’s, and ‘50’s. They prayed the Novena of Our Sorrowful Mother and the rosary during the Great Depression and war years. Thousands have been served throughout the West Side with food baskets, clothing, and education in our OLS Grammar School, St. Philip High School, our current Religious Education classes, community outreach, and St. Peregrine ministries. Now, OLS parishioners want to share another Beacon of Light with you. Our dream is to honor you and the memory of your loved ones with a project called “Novena Park.” We are confident that in a few years our Basilica Parish will be vibrant and strong again. But now is the urgency to save the Basilica. This year marks the 50th anniversary of our Church being crowned by the Pope Pius XII as the first Basilica of Chicago. Please, as the Novena at the Basilica, Our Lady of Sorrows School, St. Philip High School, or St. Peregrine still lives in your memories and your hearts look to donate to our “Novena Park” campaign. We will inscribe a new plaque in the Basilica entrance in memory of your deceased loved ones. Another plaque in the Basilica will be a living tribute for family or friends who make special an important event such as a birthday or anniversary with this honorable gift. We are asking for donations of $1,000 or more to start the work on this beautiful “Novena Park” around the Sorrowful Mother Statue on Jackson Blvd. The rosary path and benches will be used for prayer and meditation. Come often to celebrate “Novena Park” with all of us! Thank you for your generous donation and thoughtful remembrance of your family and friends. We keep hope alive! Together with God’s help, “Novena Park” is our great success! God bless you with Peace and Prayers, Fr. Christopher Krymski, OSM OLS Parish Council OLS Finance Council |
